Synopsis:
Step into a world of magic, wonder, and holiday enchantment in this delightful theatrical adaptation of The Nutcracker by June Walker Rogers! This version brings the classic Christmas story to life with lively characters, spoken dialogue, and imaginative storytelling—perfect for performers of all ages.
When young Clara receives a mysterious Nutcracker doll from her godfather on Christmas Eve, she’s swept into a fantastical adventure. As the clock strikes midnight, toys come to life, a battle with the wicked Mouse King ensues, and the Nutcracker transforms into a Prince. Together, Clara and the Nutcracker journey through the shimmering Land of Snow and into the dazzling Land of Sweets, where they meet the Sugar Plum Fairy and a host of colorful
characters from around the world.

Filled with heart, humor, and holiday magic, this play offers a variety of roles—heroic, whimsical, and fantastical—for actors of all experience levels. Join us in bringing this timeless tale to the stage and making some theatrical magic this season!

This production will feature dancers who may or may not also be cast in acting roles. Please indicate on your audition registration form if you would like to audition for acting only, dancing only, or both.

ADULT ROLES
NUTCRACKER. 21+. A toy soldier who comes to life to defend Clara and later transforms into a prince.
GODFATHER DROSS. 50+. Clara’s mysterious godfather, a toymaker and storyteller.
FATHER. 30+. Clara’s kind father.
MOTHER/SUGAR PLUM FAIRY. 25+. Clara’s mother and the graceful ruler of the Land of Sweets.
AUNT HARRIET/SNOW QUEEN. 25+. Stern, formidable.​​
CHILD ROLES
CLARA. 9-11; A young girl full of imagination and wonder.
MICKEY / MOUSE KING. 12-14; Menacing, arrogant villain who seeks to conquer the Nutcracker’s kingdom through fear and intimidation.
FRANK / KRAKATUK. 7-9; Clara’s brother, energetic and sometimes mischievous.
PRINCE / NED. 11-13; Noble and gracious, transformed from the Nutcracker.

Meet The Director!

Hello everyone! I’m Maria Vaccarella, director of Sojourn Productions The Nutcracker. I am super excited to direct my second show with Sojourn Productions! This show is FILLED with excitement and I cannot wait to see this cast bring the story of The Nutcracker to life! Before I get a chance to meet all of you, I would like to introduce myself. I have been involved with theater for 15 years, from acting in 15 productions to stage managing/directing 11 productions. My first introduction to Sojourn occurred when I was just 10 years old during their first summer camp. Since then, I have been cast in Sojourn’s main stage shows Annie and The Music Man, have stage managed The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, High School Musical Jr., Annie Jr., and The Wizard of Oz, and have directed The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. I cannot wait to meet you all!! See you at auditions!
